Use workout time as bonding time! By Sergio Fuenzalida SMSP Trainer/Strength Coach

Hello Everyone! This morning at 645am I was training a father and his 10 year old son. This boy also trains with his mom, who is a year out from chemotherapy. They are really making the most of their morning! Not only does the little boy get to do sport specific training while his parents lose weight, they are all getting to spend quality time together. Time passes quickly and Im sure they will all look back on these workouts as a healthy decision for both their bodes and their family memories. Get up early or set aside time in the evening, but spend some active time with the people closest to you!

Resolution Solution #1: Consistency is Key!! by Sergio Fuenzalida SMSP Trainer/Strength Coach

Creating a resolution to be fit is a great step forward in the right direction. You are very excited about starting a new project in the new year and that energy will get you in the gym for the first couple of days in the month. However, fitness is not achieved in just a few days, you must be consistent. Think of your resolution not as a project you are going to attempt this year and hope the the best. Its better to think of it as the beginning of a fitness journey that you will continue to move through from now on. Look at exercise as one of the enjoyable activities you get to participate in daily. Look Forward to working out and feeling your body move, your blood pump, and your sweat cooling you off. Working out is a great way to feel alive, to keep yourself healthy, and keep your spirits high. So be consistent with your workouts so you can feel great and reach your goals. Consistency is Key!

Social Benefits of Sports/Sports Training by Sergio Fuenzalida SMSP Trainer/Strength Coach

Everyone wants their kids to have friends, feel comfortable in their own skin, and to be socially accepted. Sports and Sport training help a lot with children’s ability to make friends, feel self confident and their ability to maneuver themselves well in social scenarios. Children who play sports are exposed to many more children their age, children of other ages, and adults. Kids who have more exposure to different type of people will become more comfortable with meeting new people and handling new experiences.

As your child becomes stronger and more skilled in their sport and training, self confidence will rise. Even if they aren’t the best athlete in the group, they will have skills and strength that their non-athlete friends simply won’t.

Sports and sport training have obvious physical and neurological benefits. The psychological benefits are also great. Make sure that as a parent you don’t discount the well roundedness of the benefits yielded by sports and sport training
